What is Free on Fridays all about?



It's very simple. I work for nothing on a Friday.

For four year now we have been working for no fee on Fridays.. Our aim is to help new and growing businesses to get a foothold, for them to get more customers and the help they need at a critical time in their growth or survival by helping them use the right words, and telling their story effectively to generate more business leads and win better business.

Obviously we have to be sensible about this (my currently recuperating accountant has made me promise). So, our Free on Friday service is happily given to companies, charities or any individual or organisation who has to communicate and market their products or services but who currently employ less than 10 people (that includes employing none - so if you have just started, or thinking about starting up, a business we would love to hear from you too) We love you guys especially!!!

If you employ more than 10 people then we figure that you can afford a small fee - which can be anything you like, we leave that up to you - but we ask that is given as a donation to our 2013 charity, which this year is Coaching for Hope. Please feel free to check their great work out out and the lovely Jane, the CEO at CFH, will help you with any other information about them you need.

The main rule, currently is that you do have to live and trade in Yorkshire for us to come to you. If you want to visit us from anywhere else that's fine but Yorkshire (and the rest of the World) is a bloody big place to try to get there and back to and from, especially on a Friday.

Or, if you prefer and we can do it by Skype, anywhere else in the world.

What do you get from a free Friday?

You can have us for just an hour for some advice, or all day, whatever you need. Just tell us what help you think you need Maybe it’s something practical; maybe you need a killer new sales letter, or you just need something sanity checked or a sounding board. We don't mind.

You do have to book us a few weeks in advance and, due to its success, (or possibly that fact that it is free) the list is getting longer. That’s it. Currently the waiting list is six weeks.


The main requirement is that you have to be open-minded enough to send us an email or give us a call in the first place. If you want to do exactly the same as the competition then we won't probably be much use. Currently the waiting list is six weeks.

There is no during or after sales pitch. It is absolutely what it says on the tin. It is really, really, really free, with no sneaky after stuff. You don’t even have be on our mailing list afterwards if you don’t want to be. Although you do then miss out on the now annual Xmas Beach Party Barbecue.

Why we I do it? I'm a great believer in Paying It Forward. Apart from being just a great thing to do I can tell you that it works to build your business too.

When I first started in my career I was incredibly lucky to meet two incredible mentors who helped me enormously. The only condition to providing me with all the free support and advice they gave me was that, whenever I was in a position to do the same, I had to Pay it Forward too. This is just my way of doing it.

It is not just about keeping a promise though.

Actually it is the most inspiring and exciting part of our week. You are doing us a favour as much as the other way around.

What do I get out of it? Do I get business from it? It's a fair question. we don’t get anything directly, as we don't normally take on #FOF clients, although some are very insistent, as fee payers. That just doesn't work for our head. But, to be absolutely honest the PR and great feedback spreads the Cloudburst story and doesn’t do us any harm. And happily most of our FOF clients pass on our name. That is how we get 70% of all our business currently.

Above all, and the reason we carry on with this even in today's climate, is that it is just the best day of our week, because We know we could be making a real difference to every Free Friday client we work with- which is now over 290 and counting - how do we know?
